St. Columba Hotel
Built in 1846, the Columba was originally a Free Church Manse, but became
a hotel in 1868. It is currently owned by an island based partnership of nine
individuals, all of whom have a strong connection to Iona, and this local
ownership and involvement is an important part of the hotel’s vision and
ethos.
The St. Columba has a long tradition of hospitality and offers warm and
friendly service, comfortable rooms, and superb locally produced and
sourced food – much of which comes from the hotel’s own organic gardens.

“SUMMER” HOLIDAY
The holiday, in June, of my cousin and me, to Jersey, in “Sunny Jersey” was
a lovely holiday. Not only that, though, it also showed us many remnants of
the ’39 – ’45 war, and there many books with much information on how
Channel Island people suffered during that time, and how mainland Great
Britain helped in their rescue.
In July, there was the opportunity to sing in The Chorus of Royal School of
Church Music, held in Dunblane – the only “New Girl” in the Chorus. As
there was “No room at the Inn”, travel daily was suitable, accommodation is
booked for 2018!
The end of July brought a beautiful and edifying experience over a retreat at
Millport Cathedral – a very special place.
Yes, it has been – mostly – a summer of NOT good weather, but good films
at G.F.T. have been interesting and enlightening. Seeing friends from near
and far has been high on the list, including some in hospital – now home,
and there are still visits to Pitlochry Theatre.
So! “Whatever the weather we’ll weather the weather, whether we like it or
not!”
Happy Autumn
