Behind the Name
Every month, StOM prints the Anglican Calendar of Prayer, but have you
ever thought about what or who lies behind the name and place specified
every Sunday?
In each issue, we will feature some information
about the person/place for whom your prayers
are being asked.
On 17 September, the subject is the Rev Peter
Andrew Eagles, the new Bishop of Sodor and
Man, the smallest diocese in the Church of
England, comprising 45 churches and 27
parishes.
Bishop Eagles, a married father-of-one, was
previously Archdeacon for the Army as well as Deputy Chaplain-General of
the Royal Army Chaplains' Department.
He now holds a unique position because the bishop is also a Member of the
Legislative Council of Tynwald, the Manx parliament.
On 24 September, we cross the Atlantic to pray for
Leo Frade (born 10 October 1943 in Havana, Cuba),
the third Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of
Southeast Florida and former Bishop of Honduras.
Frade was one of two Episcopal priests to be
convicted for "trading with the enemy" for their part in
bringing 402 refugees from Mariel (Cuba) on a
converted minesweeper, the God's Mercy.
The conviction was later overturned.
