The work of Treasurer at the church was becoming more complicated due to
the increased use of computers, something Robert never wanted to be
involved with, having once brought an S.P.B.S. Committee to a halt by
announcing that he thought computers were “an invention of the devil”, and
he was very relieved when Enez Anderson eventually took over from him.
A lot of you, I think, know that Robert’s main interest in life was public
transport, particularly trams and buses and also railways. His stock of books
on these subjects must be more extensive than any outside actual library. It
was as well that I knew of his love of trams, etc. while we were in
Nottingham given that one day, before we were going out together, he saw
me in the library wearing a green skirt and orange jumper and told me that I
looked like a Glasgow tram! Despite this I still married him and we had a
very happy 42 years together.

The MU Spring 2017 magazine has a page of what they have being doing
“Smalls for Africa” in partnership with other organisations, “angel pockets” for
“babies born asleep”; at Christmas they knit angel decorations to hang on
the incubators and small cardigans for those in the neo-natal units; also
“bonding squares” for premature babies and their families – patterns on their
website www.muscotland.org.uk
Their newest project is for the homeless. The MU are starting to make
“sleeping mats” for the homeless. These are made from carrier bags, cut into
strips, joined and made into a ball ready to crochet in to a mat. The mat is 2
x 6 ft. It is to replace the bits of card normally used by the homeless on the
streets. Again, we are using a partnership in this. The Simon Community in
Glasgow will distribute them along with their sleeping bags to those sleeping
rough on the streets of Glasgow.
