UN INTERNATIONAL DAY(s)
The United Nations designates specific days, weeks, years and decades as
occasions to mark particular events or topics in order to promote, through
awareness and action, the objectives of the Organization etc.
Usually, it is one or more Member States that propose these observances
and the General Assembly establishes them with a resolution.
On occasion, these celebrations are declared by the specialized agencies of
the United Nations, such as UNESCO, UNICEF, FAO, etc., when they
concern issues that fall within the scope of their competencies. Some of
them may be later adopted by the General Assembly.
The range is vast and some of those selected appear rather quixotic as a
glimpse at May’s offering will confirm!

In many cases, the desire and capacity to fight against the malaise
attempting to bring the Grim Reaper to your doorstep is a significant factor.
I have always regarded myself as a person of relatively strong character, but
I grow increasingly convinced that my ability to stave off my demise is being
reduced by a recent loss of the will to live and that the obscure condition
referred to in the sub heading is a harbinger of my doom:
The truly sad amongst you (crossword addicts) may have recognised the
