Visiting Priests Providing Sunday Cover@ St Oswald’s
27th January: Eamonn Rodgers studied Modern Languages (French and
Spanish) at The Queen's University, Belfast, obtaining an
Honours B.A. in 1963, and a Ph.D. in 1970. From 1964
until the end of 1989 he taught Spanish in Trinity College,
Dublin, moving to Glasgow in January 1990 to occupy
the Chair of Spanish and Latin American Studies at the
University of Strathclyde. He retired in 2004 and
embarked on training for ordained ministry at the
Theological Institute of the Scottish Episcopal Church. He
was ordained Deacon in 2005 and Priest in 2006. He is Non-Stipendiary
Assistant at St Ninian's, and also officiates as required in other Episcopal
Churches in the Diocese. He recently (June 2012) graduated M.Litt. from
the Divinity School of the University of St Andrews. His interests include
literature, music and the natural environment.
3rd February: Sally Gorton is already a well kennt face around St
Oswald’s who, it seems, has organised vacancy cover and provided
spiritual services at St Oswald’s on so many occasions that she is seen,
affectionately, as part of the furniture!
10th February: Barnabus Oguguo lives in Lenzie and is a teacher of
Philosophy and Religious Education in Bearsden
Academy.
He has degrees from the Urban University and The
University of Glasgow and enjoys football.
17th February Neil Heavisides: The important thing to
remember about Neil is that, through and through, he
is a parish priest with outstanding pastoral gifts. There
are countless people who will attest to this – especially
those for whom he has conducted a marriage service
or for whom he has a funeral service for a loved one.
Neil has, or aspires to, – a love of Jesus Christ, deep
understanding of the Christian gospel, a generous liberality, a love of
people, a love of poetry and a love of the life of prayer. Extracted from the
words of Richard Cann (Gloucester Cathedral)
PS. The image above is the most recent that could be found but we
understand that Neil might currently be rather more hirsute these days!!!
