Building Bridges not Barriers!
It is a worrying time for the world and for those who actually think about
where our society is heading.
The most powerful (though, sadly, not the wisest) man in the world is
reverting to the tactics of China’s Qin dynasty in building a Great Wall.
I doubt, however, that should this bizarre project ever come to fruition, it will
draw millions of tourists to visit it in the centuries to come.
On our side of the pond, a leader (I use the term loosely) is struggling to
impose a separation she does not personally believe in, on a people who are
increasingly aware that they had been lied to by some pursuing personal
aggrandisement and others whose xenophobic motives hark back to the
tainted politics of the nineteen thirties.
Whether you attribute the concept to an ancient Nigerian Proverb, to
Lebanon’s peerless thinker and mysticist Kahlil Gibran or to King T’Challa of
Wakanda in the recent Black Panther movie matters not a whit!
It’s the words and their meaning that matter and we would do well to take
heed.
“More connects us than separates us. In times of crisis,
the wise build bridges while the foolish build barriers.”
