The UsUal with
Thomas Lennon
Thomas Lennon has made quiTe a career for himseLf by being one of hoLLywood’s mosT in demand comedic characTer acTors. his work on The TeLevision program Reno 911! and supporTing roLes in fiLms Like 17 AgAin, i Love You, MAn and BAd TeAcheR have proven he can sTeaL aLmosT any scene he is in.
Lennon is much more than just an on-screen performer, he has also written several successful projects for both film and television. His screenwriting resume includes the Night at the Museum movies and the upcoming flick Hell Baby. If he had to choose between writing and acting, the choice seems quite simple for him. “I consider myself a character actor…I never have to do what leading men have to do…like wake up early in the morning and do a lot of crunches.” He thinks that being a character actor allows him to throw vanity and ego completely out the window. “I find that the more weird I get, and the weirder looking I get, the more I get to work.” Do you have a favorite current television show? It’s hard to top Mad Men for me. Every season I think it can’t top itself and every single season it gets better. It’s a little dry and introspective, but I really like it. It does not have the immediate thrill of…like Game of Thrones—Thrones has heads being chopped off and boobs all around. Do you have a favorite musician? I’m an obsessive Smiths fan. I’m more obsessed with The Smiths than anyone you ever met—they are 90% of what I listen to. In terms of new music…I just started listening to Portugal. The Man. They are kind of hard to describe but worth checking out. What are your thoughts on the Fast and the Furious movies? The only ones I have seen are part 1 and part 5. I li ked 1 but 5 fucking blew my mind. I absolutely loved it—it was like my favorite movie the year it was released. I have not seen 6 yet. As a father of a young child I only get to watch movies like that when I am in hotel rooms. How many pairs of jeans do you own? About 6 and they are all almost identical. I’m actually getting away from the jeans…my go to pants are now these black Lululemon men’s pants. They are super breathable and you can do anything in them. You can stand in a rainstorm in them. Don’t take any shit for wearing Lululemon pants. They are badass. Did you ever ride a skateboard when you were a kid? I didn’t—I bought my first skateboard as an adult a couple of months ago. It is hanging on my wall. If I skateboard now I need to put on wrist guards because I am too afraid of snapping my wrists—which is not that cool. I might get out there with it…I’m too old to get a new face however. Do you enjoy watching baseball? I grew up a Chicago Cubs fan…I’m still sort of a fan, but I don’t watch sports that much anymore. When Michael Jordan played for the Chicago Bulls I watched every televised game. After Jordan retired, sports pretty much just died for me. I have never really thought about sports all that much again.
