Poetry & Photography
In the May 2020 issue Chris Lockley shared with us his attempts at writing
poetry to go with one of his photographs. He had been encouraged to do it by
Steve Parish who moderates a photography group that he is in. Chris told us
that although he works with words, he had never tried poetry, but that during
the early hours one morning one of his photos came to mind, along with
thoughts and a flow of words which took a few days to form.
Well, not to be outdone! I shared one of my photos with a photography group
and two people told me I should write a poem using the title I had given the
image. And then I participated in a Zoom session when a photographer and
poet showed us some of his photos and read to us his poetry written to go
with those images.
Despite never for one moment ever thinking I had the necessary skill, I took
up the challenge and the result is below. I have been gratified to have received
generous responses to my efforts from a number of people, so I am
now doing some more writing of words to accompany other of my photos.
