Don & Margaret ’ s
Most people know Don as a Rugby Union fan and former player for Wagga City and Wagga Agricultural College . This is another story .
In a “ past life ” Don was a champion swimmer for his age and a member of the Drummoyne Swimming Club . His father and uncles were members of the Drummoyne Swimming Club and we held an original photo of their winning water polo team of 1911-12 which Don wished to pass on to the Club ’ s archives . Don contacted Adrian Bell , from the Club and offered them the photo and because of this gesture we recently had a visit from Adrian ’ s wife Debbie , and his daughter , Jessica . Jessica was in Canberra playing water polo with the U14 Drummoyne Devils ’ team in a competition .
They brought with them a trophy that Don had won in 1944 / 45 for us to see and for Don to share stories with the young champion , Jessica . Don ’ s name is just the fourth name on the George Wheaton Memorial Trophy which he won then and we could see that now the trophy is covered in names having
