St Margaret’s Eco-Page Got a broken household item? Don't despair, you can repair! Canberra Environment Centre runs a monthly repair cafe. These sessions are a chance to get some help to fix your clothing, jewellery, small household appliances, bicycles and other bits and pieces. What can you bring to Repair Cafe? There will definitely be glue and textile repairs, and they can generally help with jewellery, small appliances (these can be tested by an electrician for a small fee), wooden objects, bicycles and many other objects. You can check the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ canberrarepaircafe/ to know which repairers are available to volunteer. In the meantime, if you know what objects you would like help repairing or having any specific repairing skills you'd like to offer, email [email protected] This event is volunteer-run and self-sufficient, so if you have tools or materials you can use for your own repairs or share with others, do bring them along. Glue and other consumables are purchased with any donations from guests/volunteers and use donated or shared tools. Tea and coffee available by donation to Canberra Environment Centre and guests may bring along a snack to share from time to time. The Repair Cafe "usually" runs 10am to 1pm on the second Saturday of each month at the Canberra Environment Centre, Cnr Lennox Crossing and Lawson Crescent Acton ACT. However, they are not happening at the moment because of Covid-19 concerns. But what a great idea! Perhaps we can start a repair group at St Margaret's? Our Sustainability Festival on 19 September would be a good time to start! - contributed by Barbara Burns St Margaret’s News 6 August 2020
