Farmers Market Preparing for New Growth Opportunities
There is no better way to spring into
the warm weather than with fresh fruits , veggies and locally produced farm-to-table food .
Shonna Richardson , Marketing Manager for the Stillwater Farmers Market said all the produce and goods sold are locally grown and made .
“ A long time ago when the market first started , the city put that on us because we had a contract with the city to use the park and everything . And they said ‘ look , most of the sales tax is going to come from these towns in this area , so we want everything to come from the County .’ So we ’ ve always held to that , we ’ re a pure market ,” she said .
The Stillwater Farmers Market has been operating for over 30 years , and requires the vendors to grow their produce in Payne County or surrounding counties of Logan , Lincoln , Creek , Pawnee and Noble Counties .
Richardson said this can cause issues with what available goods they have at the market .
“ If it freezes the peaches out here , then there are no peaches at the market , but the good thing is , you can count on everything being grown by the producers there . Matter of fact , you have to be a member of the market to grow things and bring them in ,” she said .
Richardson said the market is also always looking for more vendors , with a variety of goods to sell at the market .
“ It ’ d be neat if we had a mushroom
