Bob Dylan, John Lennon, George Harrison and more than 100 major artists before his untimely passing in 1988. Davis was a session and solo guitarist who has 1,000s of credits to his name. In 2002, Davis was posthumously inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame.
One could argue that Jesse Ed Davis is the original Oklahoma Red Dirt artist and later became known as the " guitar hero ' s guitar hero " for his influential slide guitar work. Throughout his prolific career, he collaborated with notable artists including three of the four Beatles, and left a significant mark on the rock music scene from the 1960s to the 1980s. Not wanting to use his heritage as a gimmick, Jesse Ed Davis wanted to be known as a musician first and foremost. Unlike members of Redbone who leaned into their American Indian aesthetic, Jesse ' s talent was always front and center. In 2018 he was inducted into the Native American Music Hall of Fame.
Doug Miller and Joy Harjo, three-time U. S. Poet Laureate and Jazz saxophonist, co-curated the exhibition Jesse Ed Davis: Natural Anthem that ' s currently on display at the Bob Dylan Center in Tulsa. Joy also wrote the forward for Miller ' s book. Fellow music enthusiast and Oklahoma filmmaker Sterlin Harjo is developing Doug Miller ' s book into a film.
