day event at Project Heart, based out of the Stillwater Community Center. The program serves lunch to local residents 65 years and older five days a week and delivers meals to the homes of disabled seniors.
“ When holidays come up like Mother’ s Day, Easter or Christmas, I always do a little something and take it down there. All the people gather around the ice sculpture and get a picture. It’ s fun,” Brandenburg said.“ It’ s a nice way to give something back. We have been very fortunate and have had a lot of opportunities with it. I am very glad to have the ability to do it.”
Brandenburg said when he and his wife, Kathryn, got invited to lunch at Project Heart, they immediately fell in love with the socializing part of the lunch, which Janet Verner says, is probably the favorite aspect for most attendees.
“ We appreciate him and his wife so much. They volunteer to help with anything that needs to be done,” Project Heart Stillwater site manager Janet Verner said of Brandenburg and his wife.“ He makes sculptures for every event from January to December. For Veterans Day, he will do one with an eagle or something, and at Christmas, maybe one of Santa Claus. He donates them to the program out of the goodness of his heart. It means a lot. He and his wife always say, it’ s a little thing, but it’ s a big thing to me.” SwOk
