aggressive in their inventory , but they sold out within four days before Thanksgiving that year .
“ We considered that a huge success for two moms with no experience who just had this idea ,” George said . “ That really helped us ignite a bigger fire .”

To date , Turkey on the Table has donated over 1.8 million meals in nine years .

Giving Back
“ The other part of Turkey on the Table – which is so meaningful – is the giving back ,” George said . “ There was a lot to be passionate about , ( but ) it wasn ’ t just filling a void in the retail marketplace and letting other moms purchase something for a holiday . It ’ s also giving back to those in need .”
For each Turkey on the Table that ’ s sold , 10 meals are provided for the hungry through a partnership with Feeding America , a national food bank .
Feeding America is the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States . With a national network of food banks , food pantries and community-based organizations , they work to end hunger by providing food and support to millions of people .
To date , Turkey on the Table has donated over 1.8 million meals in nine years .
“ We know that ’ s really a drop in the bucket when you look at the whole picture , but we feel good about that and know that we can do so much more ,” George said . “ Hopefully , people feel good buying ( Turkey on the Table ) and using it for the gratitude portion that it gives them and their family , but also knowing that they have really helped others in need .”
One in every six Americans is food insecure – from children to senior adults .
According to its website , Feeding America reports that 34 million people in the United States face food insecurity , with children representing 9 million of that total .
Forty-nine million people turned to food programs in 2022 because of the pandemic as unemployment soared .
Every county in the United States faces food insecurity . Rural communities are often hit harder . Many African American , Latino and Native American communities face food insecurity at higher rates .
One thing that George and Maunus learned in fighting hunger is that hunger doesn ’ t equal homelessness .
“ A lot of people who are relying on food banks are people who are working , children who get a lot of food assistance from going to school and getting free lunches and also elderly people who are retired and not making ends meet ,” Maunus said . “ It ’ s people who ( decide ), do they pay their electricity and their rent or do they get food ? They don ’ t want to get kicked out of their homes , so they are choosing to pay other bills , and so there ’ s a gap … that ’ s where they rely on the
