Why ’ s it spooky ?:
Opened in 1927 , The Poncan might just be the most majestic old theater left in the state ( though Carnegie ’ s old theater would have something to say about that ).
It ’ s simply gorgeous and a monument to the days of traveling stage shows and Old Hollywood films . Notably , several individuals have died on property , including one of the original owners , who suffered a heart attack while checking on the balcony . Her son was once an honored guest when I “ rode along ” with Insight for an overnight investigation / Halloween event with a large , public crowd .
In two Halloween investigations at The Poncan , I witnessed something apparently using a flashlight to respond to direct questions , disembodied voices from empty and completely sealed and insulated rooms , a feeling that a finger ran across the right side of my jaw and an EVP that appeared to have a woman with a distinct Southern accent responding to one of my questions that is only audible through the recording .
Oh , and one of my photographs of the stage that I took from the balcony showed a shadowy figure that couldn ’ t be accounted for .
I played the aforementioned EVP for the former owner ’ s son , without much explanation . I wanted him to just hear the voice . The first time I played it , his eyes grew wide , he grabbed my arm and yelled out , “ That ’ s my mom ! That ’ s her voice !”
