Anna also served as President of the Student Council during her senior year , adding leadership skills to her creative abilities .
“ One day I took her to one of these conferences and she was , you know , kind of timid about going and , you know , it ’ s a natural kind of fear of a young person ,” Chris said . “ And another participant in this conference came up to Anna and said , ‘ Where do I go ?’ And with confidence , she rose up and spoke . And I was like , oh , I get it . She can kind of get the courage in the moment to become
this very strong person .”
In addition to full-time classes , Anna works as an associate at the OSU Museum of Art . She greets guests and gives instructions on how to enjoy the art exhibits .
“ It ’ s an easy job . I can work on school things and stuff , but just being in the museum and seeing new art come in , I really enjoy it ,” Anna said . “ I like art and I just think art administration could be a better path with broader career choices than maybe being an artist would be .”
With the kids out of the house , Sarah and Chris are transitioning to the empty nest lifestyle , giving them a variety of emotions to process .

“ For a good week when they left , it was just hard , it ’ s like a transition , not going to lie about that ,” Sarah said . “ Anna used to have a fan on every single night , Chris says he hears all kinds of things now at night .”
Choosing to stay in Stillwater has some perks with having your parents only minutes away .
“ My mom , she can ’ t really stay away . She comes ( here ) like a couple of times a week ,” Henry said . “ She uses gifts as an excuse to see us . She went to Trader Joe ’ s the other day and she brought us a bunch of frozen meals . That was really nice . She ’ s been really helpful .”
Social media has helped Anna keep an eye on her parents , watching them get used to this new life where their kids are not a daily focus .
“ I ’ ll see her Facebook posts . She ’ ll be going out to like Stonecloud with her friends ,” Anna said . “ It makes me happy that she has more free time . Maybe not worry about what we ’ re doing , but focus more on herself and her hobbies . Same thing with my dad .”
