the 100-percent plan going in . Put out requests for qualifications to seek construction partners . The City will do our part to improve infrastructure around the block at the same time . Parking , street lighting , new waterlines , sewer lines .
I ’ m proud of our engineering staff , our planning , our community development . They have been working alongside the designers for the block in the area and some local engineering firms have been helping with the design for public improvements . It has been a very coordinated effort . It has made the planning review side very efficient . It ’ s something our community is going to be really proud about .”
NEW BALL FIELDS
Stillwater voters approved an increase on the Hotel / Motel Tax , now called a Visitors Tax , that includes 30 percent going to an amenities fund . A lot of folks would like to see that money going to new ball fields or soccer fields .
Moore : “ It ’ s exciting , the conversation we ’ re having on these ball parks . The Tourism Board oversees that 30 percent of that increased Visitor Tax . Rough estimates , because we ’ re not through the first fiscal year , is that it ’ s going to be around $ 400,000- $ 500,000 for that portion . The board has said they ’ d like to see that be put into new ball fields / soccer fields so we can host big tournaments . That ’ s something we ’ ll be looking at if we can revenue bond that and start making those amenities happen .”
THE HUB
The Tonkawa Tribe and Stillwater Chamber of Commerce have announced a massive new family entertainment destination for the area of Airport Road and US Highway 177 .
Moore : “ It honestly kind of blew me away . For the tribe , to have a passion for these types of facilities … the fact that they want to make this type of investment in Stillwater for a family facility – and they have a good model , their product is really good , the amenities they want to offer here in Stillwater , indoor and outdoor pickleball – it ’ s going be a large facility even bigger than they have in Tonkawa . It ’ s something we ’ ve recognized in Stillwater that we wanted more options for our youth to have safe entertainment and this is a blessing to have the Tonkawa Tribe make this type of investment .”
SIXTH AND WESTERN ART PROJECT Morgan Robinson ’ s Interlace sculpture is ready for installation and a new way to welcome people to Stillwater .
Moore : “ A local group wanted to change the sign to make it a significant art piece . They ’ ve really led the way . Got the homes moved off the area to purchase right away ahead of Highway 51 expansion ( scheduled for 2027 ). Moved utilities .”
PERKINS ROAD CONSTRUCTION
Every indication given to the City points to Perkins Road construction being finished by its fall 2023 deadline . They plan to have lanes fully open by football season .
Moore : “ I know it ’ s been a challenge for our great commercial partners on Perkins Road . We appreciate their patience . The net benefit will be a safer corridor for turn lanes . More ADA-access sidewalks , its a huge benefit to a large part of our community .” SwOk
