2) Nominee must have outstanding civilian public service and / or patriotic service to include civic work, service to veterans, projects influencing or motivating youth, helping the handicapped and disabled, community improvements, leadership positions, etc. A community service section is not required for nominees who have been Killed in Action, or who are Missing in Action.
3) The nominee must have a well-established Oklahoma connection.
SOM: How many chapters have been started in the state, and how many veterans have you honored so far in Oklahoma?
DD: So far, there are 18 chapters, 259 individuals in the Hall of Fame and 157 individuals in the Hall of Honor. We have also honored groups such as the WWII Army Ranger Brig. Gen. Lucian Truscott, who was responsible for the formation of the original Rangers. Now 71 World War II Army Rangers from Oklahoma have been honored.
SOM: How has the program grown in recent years?
DD: The annual Hall of Fame event now held in Norman has grown to over 600 in attendance. The addition of Hall of Honor chapters is providing exposure and participation across the state.
SOM: Why do you think it is important to honor veterans in this way?
DD: Honoring military veterans for their service is rewarding for both the veterans and their families as well as those who learn and are inspired by their stories, and by educating the public, especially
