First of its kind: Oklahoma Military Heritage Foundation grows its impact across the state
etired Maj. Gen. Douglas Dollar, and his wife, Darla, are responsible for a well-oiled organization that seeks to recognize and honor as many military members in Oklahoma as possible. The Dollars founded the Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame in 1999. After more than 25 years, the Hall of Fame has honored nearly 260 veterans to date.
In 2003, the Hall of Fame was incorporated as the Oklahoma Military Heritage Foundation, a 501( c)( 3) that relies on donations, volunteer leadership and service. The Hall of Fame honors 12 new members per year, with the goal to honor more Oklahomans who served through its Military Hall of Honor, which was launched on Memorial Day in 2023 to expand the number of veterans honored yearly.
Community chapters are developed to administer the programs locally. The chapters identify and nominate honorees who will receive the Hall of Fame or Hall of Honor recognitions, select honorees annually and coordinate presentations.
