THE STUDENT SOLDIER

Serving your country while attending college

Iam a former Midwest City High school graduate and I serve as a U. S. Army Reservist while attending Oklahoma State University.

I am a 22-year old senior at Oklahoma State University, where I study sports media with a minor in sports management. I am near the end of my fourth year serving in the United States Army. I enlisted into the Army Reserves as a 12 charlie, otherwise known as a bridge-crew engineer.
The transition from graduating high school and figuring out what career path to take can be challenging. Growing up in a military family, many of my family members served in the Army, Air Force and Navy. My mother always enforced the habit of serving others in any way you can, so enlisting in the Army was the perfect way to serve and also establish and plan a career path outside of obtaining a degree from college.
My experiences during basic training were memorable. While arriving at basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, the weather conditions were very hot and humid in early August. While at graduation from basic training in mid-November, the weather was very cold. Along with adjusting to the weather, I gained many friendships and built bonds with my fellow battle buddies.
I will never forget living with those 47 people for my first five months into the Army. My aspirations now are to become a sports columnist. I regularly attend Army drill one weekend a month in Mustang, where I am a part of the 401st Engineer company. I plan to continue my military career as long as God continues to bless me with the opportunity to serve my country. The military has done many good deeds for me and my family, and it is my duty to give my all until I cannot anymore.
I am forever grateful for the opportunities I have received since enlisting and I am thankful to have a source and plan to fall back on.
