You know there are pitfalls and risks : If journalists report the truth , and that truth is published in a forum with the reach of The New York Times front page , there is a real chance that what you ’ re reporting escalates the war , or angers someone involved in it to the point your own safety can be jeopardized . But the alternative is to share half-truths , lies or propaganda , and if you ’ re truly dedicated to the truth , you can ’ t do that . I don ’ t
JOSH CRUTCHMER know that “ proud ” is a good word to use when you ’ re discussing war coverage , but I do think that myself and my colleague sleep at night knowing that if we aren ’ t covering this conflict with this level of accuracy and detail , we ’ d be contributing to misleading the entire world , regardless of what anyone ’ s opinion of us might be .
