MERIDIAN TECHNOLOGY CENTER celebrates 50 years of education and economic impact
For 50 years, Meridian Technology Center focused on one goal: to strengthen Oklahoma’ s workforce through career training, business development, professional and personal development. Even as Oklahoma’ s industries continue changing, Meridian keeps focusing on the state’ s workforce needs, then developing practical solutions to meet them. In reaching its 50th anniversary mark, Superintendent and CEO Douglas Major said what impresses him most about this achievement is not one single accomplishment, but the number of lives Meridian has influenced during that time.
“ During the 2025 school year alone, we hit the milestone of 1,000 students enrolled in our Full Time Programs,” Major told the News Press.“ I am proud that we have continued to grow without losing sight of our mission to educate, enrich lives and secure economic futures.”
Originally known as Indian Meridian Area Vocational-Technical School, the doors opened to the public in July 1973 with 13 programs and 30 staff members. The school was renamed Meridian Technology Center in 1994.
Today, Meridian offers more than 80 career majors and services 10 school districts. Its services extend to campuses in Stillwater, Guthrie and Perry, with many online classes available.
