Rob said . “ We were literally waiting until , like , the day before the game to even tell him he was going to be Pistol Pete Partner . We thought if we told him too much in advance , he would be saying , ‘ Is it time ? Is it time ?’”
Warren ’ s moment wasn ’ t rehearsed , Rob said . But , Warren did have a wrinkle he wanted to add .
“ They told him the kids go out and say ‘ Go Pokes .’ He asked if he could say ‘ O-S-U Cowboys .’ That ’ s what he says all the time around the house . I was like , I don ’ t know , all the other kids say ‘ Go Pokes .’ He said , ‘ I ’ d like to say OSU Cowboys .’ The only thing they told him was make sure you project your voice . Make sure you say it loud enough for everybody to hear it . And Les , he ’ s the hype man of hype men . He ’ s amazing man . Our families have been a part of each other for a very long time , like 20 years . I remember Les telling him – Warren calls him Uncle Boo – I remember him telling Warren , ‘ When I put the mic there make sure you say it loud .’ He tells us he said that to every kid .
“ We had no idea this kid was going to just belt to the heavens .”
Since then , the Clays have partnered with the university to license Cowboy gear with Warren ’ s image . He has official T-shirts at Chris ’ University Spirt and BreakingT . OSU has had Warren do promotions , commercials , half-time events , help out at the Mr . OSU pageant and other special appearances . They threw him a public party for his fifth birthday .
“ We ’ re very grateful ,” Rob said . “ Just having that partnership . It ’ s a blessing .”
For OSU as well . It ’ s doubtful even Collin Oliver ’ s Bedlam highlights have had the kind of reach Warren ’ s video has .
Warren , though , would have been ready to support the Cowboys no matter what kind of attention he gets .
He is his brother Collin ’ s No . 1 fan . He loves his brother . And he loves the game . His motto is “ Big Love . Big Energy .” “ Even before all the Warren the Cowboy stuff , he ’ s never known a stranger ,” Rob said . You can follow Warren on Instagram at Warren-
