Stillwater Living Magazine Volume 10 Issue 12 June 2014 | Page 5
editorial
June is here. There are some pretty awesome things that happen in June
every year, and that makes me a very happy girl. First of all, the weather
(usually) is nice! While we can never be bored with Oklahoma’s everchanging weather, we can also never expect a typical season. But by-inlarge, June in Oklahoma is a pretty great season of weather. A mix of early
summer showers, with 80s and 90s, sunshine and mild winds make for great
days to go to the lake, have a picnic, garden and spend time outdoors. I can
never get enough outdoor time in June.
Second of all, we get to honor dads in June. I particularly love this because
I have a couple of great men in my life to honor for father’s day. Seventeen
years ago when Ray and I started dating, he was more than a little intrepid
about what type of father he would be. Since the arrival of our firstborn son
eleven years ago, I can tell you that he has developed into a fantastic dad.
Sometimes I am a little jealous even that maybe he’s a better parent than I
am—he’s definitely got the “cool” factor down. With two boys, we have tons
of adventures that involve airplanes, snakes, rocks and caves—all things that
don’t naturally come to my mind!
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a daddy’s girl. My dad and I are
(sometimes) too much alike. We think alike and we react similarly to most
everything. When it all hits the fan, his opinion is one I always look to,
and his barometer is one I definitely consult when I’m challenging my own
opinions. I know there are a lot of great dads out there, and we want to
help you celebrate what you love about your dads too. So log onto our
website and share your favorite dad story, and peruse what others have
written too. Everyone who enters posts will get a special treat for their dad
from SLM—and the post with the most votes will get a prize pack from one
of our great advertisers, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.
Happy Father’s Day and Happy June. Hope you get outside and make the
most of it!
