Ok, I swear… I got a flu shot. I washed my hands like a crazy woman.
We’ve gone through three boxes of tissues and two cans of Lysol and
antibacterial wipes. I thought I was prepared for this year’s cold and flu
season. Boy was I WRONG!
We’ve been battling everything here from a nasty upper respiratory virus that
I still can’t quite shake to a 24-hour stomach virus, to rampant allergies, and
our extended family and staff have been fighting RSV, Strep, and the FLU! I
know we’re not the only ones fighting the illness cycle. We’ve heard from a
number of our advertisers, clients and readers that have been battling it too.
Luckily, in my house, we’ve avoided the influenza, but I know a few stubborn
people who refuse the shot that did get it this year. I know there are a lot of
strong feelings about whether or not to get immunized, but for me, it’s the
choice we make for our family and after this year’s devastating toll that the
influenza virus is taking on many people, several that we know personally,
we are believers in the vaccine.
This week I got to do a really fantastic interview with a captivating
gentleman, Dr. Doug Aichele. Dr. Aichele and his dogs, Good Boy Gumbie
and Vulcan, are creating a unique experience for some local second graders
in the next month leading up to the Iditarod Race in Alaska. Dr. Aichele’s
connection to sled dogs and sled dog racing is a fantastic and unique
experience that he’s using to inspire a new generation of dog lovers. I
hope you enjoy the story about Gumbie and his family, I found it hard to be
concise, because this interesting man has some life experiences that stretch
far and wide and I found myself wanting to talk to him for hours!
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. This year, whether you buy a gift,
a dinner, share a hug or just a few simple words- make sure you share
how you feel with your loved ones. You never know how much time we
have together on planet Earth. Here at SLM, we LOVE our readers and
advertisers. We know we aren’t your only choice for local news, and we
are thrilled that you chose to read Stillwater Living, and that does my heart
good! Happy Valentine’s Day!
