It seems you can ’ t surf the web these days without some self-appointed health gurus trying to sell you a range of weird and wonderful diets online . Some claim to have miracle diets which will unlock virtual superpowers if only you buy their expensive health foods . Others make more modest claims , promising to give you the life expectancy of our Mediterranean friends . However , when it comes to eating properly , simplicity really is the key . While the tips that follow aren ’ t exactly “ forgotten ” secrets or magical words , they will ensure that you ’ re giving yourself the best chance of staying healthy for as long as possible .
START WITH A GOOD BREAKFAST ! A good breakfast will set you up properly for the day . But what precisely makes a breakfast good ? A good amount of starchy — or complex — carbohydrates . This may be wholegrain bread , or it may be a high-fiber , low-sugar cereal such as bran flakes . A good dose of long-chain carbohydrates in the morning carries many advantages . They will not only keep you focused and alert — the controlled release of energy throughout the start of the day certainly will — but they will also prevent you from feeling hungry and opportunistically snacking on convenient and delicious fatty , sugary foods .
