child in many ways, was confronted by her
eldest sister. She was forced to take a
pregnancy test, which confirmed the
pregnancy. She was then taken home.
Inside was her mother, in a fetal position in
the corner of the sofa, crying. When this girl
went to hug her mom, she was pushed and
told , "Get AWAY" from me!" This was
devastating. She went to her room to find it
was destroyed. All of her pictures lay broken
on the floor. It was perhaps the worst night
of her life.
Time passed, and everyone adjusted to the
reality that this teen was having a baby. She
was ostracized. She was not allowed to go
see her grandmother who was dying, not
allowed to see extended family, not allowed
to see the father of the baby. It was a lonely
time for her. She was a "shame and
disgrace" to her family. This pregnancy
became her defining moment.
The psychological, emotional and physical
changes she went trough were almost
unbearable. Her worst fear, a C-section, was
her only option for delivery. The baby
arrived, a healthy little girl. Since she had
always loved babies, this was a source of
happiness for her. This baby loved her as
she was, without judgment.
More time passed, and she managed to
finish high school. The continued mental
and emotional abuse from her boyfriend
and mother had completely destroyed this
young girl's self-worth. She would
eventually muster the courage to leave both of those abusive situations and live
alone with her daughter.
She got an apartment, worked, paid her bills, and gave up on her dreams of becoming
an attorney. In her mind, she was damaged, ugly, ashamed, and unworthy of
happiness. She had no friends, no faith, and no hope.
That's when someone showed up in her life unexpectedly. It was someone who
was not from that small town.
