Students recently loved seeing the similarities and differences between how Halloween and Day of the Dead were celebrated by their friends around the world .

To give students a concrete representation of the distance , travel , and of the project , teachers decided on a mascot for the project , “ SMARTee ” a small beaver that travels around to visit all the students and countries . Students then chart his destinations and travels on a google map and in a blog called smartee . moobis . se . SMARTee also brings with him small goodies from the various countries for the next students to try . Students in New Mexico loved to try the popular slated licorice from Finland but decided it was best to keep the candy in Finland .
Lotta Ramqvist is a very talented teacher in Örebro , Sweden . She works in a school teaching children who have hearing loss or who are deaf . The name of the school is Brigittaskolan .
Carla Pinho Vieira is a teacher in South Africa . She teaches for St Vincent School for the Deaf in Johannesburg South Africa . She teaches English as a second language and for grade 4 , 5 , 6 . Carla has been in Deaf education for 7 years now .

Just in packing SMARTee the beaver up in New Mexico to send along to the next location , students had to learn all about postage , miles to kilometers conversion , and weight as well
