the masses, for the tools in place are not designed with the least common denominator in mind.
Therefore, we need a different process, an alternative way for building a product.
There is something that physicists do for explaining phenomena at the quantum level. Instead of
drawing parallels with old ideas and moving top-down, they take the basic building blocks, known to
be true and use them to build upwards. This is something that resonates with us strongly. If the answer
to the “why” is “it’s always been done like this”, then maybe we need to rethink it.
These are the same ideas we use to build 3D Creationist, a 3D modeling software designed to be used
by anyone and everyone. Something we ourselves use to bring our ideas to life, visualize them, show
them off and even 3D print them. Yes that’s right, this is the shameless plug section.
To get an idea of what is possible when you give workable tools to people with no experience, check
out what they have made at http://3dcreationist.com/gallery. Over 19000 designs, built by children and
hobbyists around the world, from cartoon characters to fully furnished houses. People have found all
kinds of uses, from building models for computer games to designing work benches.
There will always be those aiming to dig deep and we encourage them to do so. We are betting, that by
making the first step into 3D design easy, more people will take the next one.
The software is available for free on Android, iOS and the PC at http://3dcreationist.com to use in the
classroom or anywhere else.
Kristjan Järvan is the CEO of 3D Creationist. He studied law and economics in the
University of Tartu and previously worked in 3D Printer OS and with the Estonian
Development Fund.
