Make yourself comfortable— and have fun!
By Christopher Harris Editor
Welcome to Somerset, Pulaski County, and the Lake Cumberland region. Kick your shoes off. Make yourself comfortable. Stay a while. And while you’ re here, let’ s play! From the vast lake waters, stretching out over more than 65,500 acres, to the Daniel Boone National Forest, from local events and attractions to some of the region’ s most unique places to lodge and dine on vacation, our community has plenty of reasons to come and visit— or, if you already live here, to not even consider going anywhere else this summer.
You’ ll not want to leave in July. That’ s when the annual Master Musicians Festival is held, bringing in Grammy-nominated performer Jamey Johnson this year as well as a full line-up of talent to the beautiful sylvan surroundings of Festival Field.
You’ ll want to check the schedule for all the goings-on at The Virginia Theater in downtown Somerset as well, a historic venue that’ s found new life hosting concerts, events, classic movie screenings, and more.
Board the train for the Big South Fork Railway and experience scenic travel the nostalgic way.
You may want to check in and make a stay of it at Villager Resort or Woodson Bend, two of Lake Cumberland’ s top lodging destinations. And if you’ d like to try going underwater, stop by Diver’ s Den and check out one of the nation’ s top scuba shops.
All that and more can be found in this edition of Stay & Play, the Commonwealth Journal’ s guide to summertime fun in the area. Settle in, stay a while, and give it a read— we’ re here to help you have the best time possible!
