“ Honoring a master every year is the heart of this festival and its mission, and The Kentucky Headhunters are masters in every way imaginable,” said Finley.“ I can’ t wait to see them on stage. They will take us back in time with their legendary songs and help us remember and celebrate what makes Kentucky music truly special.”
Every year, MMF features not just iconic names in the music industry like Johnson and The Kentucky Headhunters, but up-and-comers as well. This year, Finley is particularly excited about audiences seeing Canadian band The Jins, who bring a grunge-inspired sound that Finley said is often compared to Nirvana.
“ They’ re young guys; they’ ve made a huge splash already internationally,” she said.“ Their streaming numbers are huge, but they just really haven’ t done a big North American tour yet, so we’ re excited to grab them( now). It’ s somebody we’ re going to be able to( one day consider) a feather in our hat.”
Another act that’ s popular on the Kentucky festival scene is Buffalo Wabs & the Price Hill Hustle out of Cincinnati, an Americana folk band that Finley is pleased to bring to Somerset;“ They’ re going to be really fun for Friday night,” said Finley.
One of the“ coolest things” the festival is doing this year is putting a bigger spotlight on local talent, said Finley. Hunter Flynn and Cody Lee Meece, both rising talents out of Pulaski County, will both have“ prime spots” on the main stage— Meece will play the 8 p. m. Friday set, and Flynn will take 6 p. m. on Saturday.
