Doctors had warned Katie, seen here with Dalton on their wedding day in 2011, not to come into contact with other CF patients since this would make her vulnerable to further illness
Her devoted husband made a public appeal on their common Facebook page:“ We are both ready to continue fighting but at this point we are running out of options and need your help. Please help me to save my wife Katie.” But it was Dalton who died first.
In her last interview, Katie said of her husband: « He was one of the greatest people I’ d ever met. If we had gotten the chance to write a book it would have been a best seller.» Katie told relatives that the meeting with Dalton gave them both a world full of happiness and love. But when her husband died, she just said that very soon she will see him again.
During their last conversation Katie smiled at the face of her husband on the video call, telling him how much she loved him. Katie had no idea if Dalton had heard her, but it was the only way she had to say goodbye. Katie passed away five days after his funeral.
THE COUPLE LAST SAW EACH OTHER ON JULY 16, THEIR FIFTH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. BUT THEY WERE NEVER ABLE TO MEET AGAIN FOR ONE FINAL KISS. ONCE KATIE SAID TO HIM « I WOULD PREFER TO BE REALLY VERY HAPPY, COMPLETELY HAPPY FOR 5 YEARS, THAN 20 YEARS OF NOT HAVING YOU.» AFTER ALL, THEY LIVED HAPPY 5 YEARS OF MARRIAGE, AND THAT WAS THEIR MAIN DESIRE.
