Locals enjoy visiting weekly to check out what new items vendors bring each week . Melanie Rose , from Burnside , said she likes to browse the market each week since vendors change and many of the regular vendors have new products each time she visits .
“ Sometimes I will leave with an arm full of unique treasures , other times empty-handed , but that is the beauty in shopping at flea markets ,” said Rose . “ It ’ s always a treasure hunt . Sometimes you might have to sort through some piles but hiding within it all is the item you didn ’ t know you needed and fall in love with . You are going to find some unique stuff here .”
You will find that those who frequent the flea market aren ’ t shy , shoppers or vendors alike . Many have been enjoying the Lake Cumberland Flea Market for decades and it ’ s not uncommon to strike up a conversation . You are going to hear tons of stories , whether it be about the items the vendors have or talking with a friend as you pass each other in the aisles of booths inside or outside at the tables .
“ My father ( Jimmy Phelps ) and I have been running this flea market for 12 to 15 years ,” said Beth Wood assistant manager of the Lake Cumberland flea market . “ Most people come here
because they can buy products for cheaper here , they have somewhere they can walk around that is nice and cool and grab some food . ( Many customers ) are tourists who come in after they spend time at the lake and we appreciate them coming in . You ’ re always going to meet interesting people here .”
The Lake Cumberland Flea Market is open Saturday and Sunday only from 9 a . m . -5 p . m . It ’ s a great way to escape poor weather that can interrupt outdoor fun in the summer , since there are vendors indoors in addition to the outdoor market .
“ You never know what you are going to find at a flea market ,” said Wood . “ We have antiques , clothes and health and
