The heart of Lake Cumberland is eager for August with attractions for tourists and locals alike .
The Monticello / Wayne County Tourist Commission has a calendar of opportunities to explore its lake life , historical heritage and downtown area throughout the month .
“ Monticello brings a very unique blend , so really no matter what you ’ re interested in whether it ’ s the heritage of Southcentral Kentucky or a vacation spot to shop , dine and enjoy premium water sports , Monticello is able to offer both ,” said Seth Rice , Executive Director of the Monticello / Wayne County Tourist Commission .
Conley Bottom Resort offers waterfront camping , rentals including houseboats , jet skis , pontoons and more at Lake Cumberland . This summer the resort also expanded with the grand opening of a new restaurant , The Boathouse , which features upper and lower-level dining with iconic lake views .
Conley Bottom has planned to continue their Lakeside Summer Concert series in August with live music performances on the upper deck of the marina including : August 4- Cody Lee Meece August 11- Dylan Vaughn August 18- Rollin ’ Smoke August 25- Lightening Rod “ It ’ s been an exciting time for tourists and our folks in the area to have great things to do and great experiences to have right here on the lake ,” said Rice .
Not far from the marina is Monticello ’ s beautiful Mill Springs area . Friends and families can have a tour of the historic Brown-Lanier House from the Civil War , or simply enjoy the surrounding Lake Cumberland landscape amongst picnic tables , hiking trails , dock and its iconic Mill Springs Mill , which has the largest overshot water wheel in the world .
The Mill Springs Mill has been operating since the early 1800 ’ s and has continued to run for visitors every Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 3 p . m . until Labor
