INUED! E CONT TO B Babe Ruth South East Regional Tournament PRST STD US POSTAGE PAID HARRISONBURG, VA PERMIT NO. 75 ECRWSS POSTAL PATRON The Staunton Cal Ripken League, with coordination from the City of Staunton’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Staunton Kiwanis Club, will host the 2014 Babe Ruth Southeast Regional Tournament for the 12 and under age division. The tournament is scheduled for July 17-20, with teams arriving on Thursday and play beginning on Friday. The Southeast Region consists of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee. State champions plus the host team, Staunton, will compose the field for the tournament. The tourney will be pool play followed by single elimination. Last year, 10 teams participated. The tournament will be played at the Kiwanis Baseball Complex in Gypsy Hill Park with action on both May Field and Kiwanis Field. There will be no admission charge for fans wishing to watch the games. This is the third Southeastern Regional hosted by the Staunton Cal Ripken League. Each participant will receive a “goody bag” which will include free passes and discounts to local attractions. An event of this magnitude is very costly. Just to host the tournament, the Staunton Cal Ripken League gave the Southeast Region $2,500. Local businesses and individuals can help the league defray some of the costs in several ways, since there is no admission charge. Company banners are able to be hung on the outfield fence of May Field. The banner will be displayed for the entire regular season, the playoffs, invitational tournaments, the Southeast Regional and through Fall Ball. Businesses can also advertise in the Southeast Regional Program booklet. For more information or to find out how you can be a sponsor, please call Debbie Gregory at (540) 332-3945.
