point of view to ensure that we can deliver
as promised. Today our flown cargo as
booked sits almost at 98 to 99 percent. No
airline in the world is able to achieve that.
We deliver. It is a perfect thing for us to
champion and take control of.
How do you plan to attract new and
fresh talent into this industry?
e are unable to attract the right talent and we struggle with that. What
we have done quite recently is to start
recruiting individuals from high schools.
Today we already have the programme
in the Emirates University. We put them
through a four-year degree programme
so when they graduate they graduate
in supply chain and logistics. Once they
graduate, they are put though a year and
half of management training programme
before they join Emirates to take up a
job. The outcome of such programme is
incredible. We have seen huge attraction
to this programme. It sets the right tone
for us. And we literally get them ready for
the field. The younger generation today,
if they are given right training and right
development, you really can create something unique out of these individuals. They
become an asset for the entire industry
not just for Emirates. That’s the big mission
and that is the social responsibility we take
on board to ensure that young individuals
like that are groomed and ready to participate in the industry.

Innovation and investment drive success
The opening of Emirates SkyPharma, Emirates SkyCargo’s new purposebuilt facility dedicated exclusively to the timely and secure transport of
temperature sensitive pharmaceutical shipments at Dubai International
Airport (DXB), recently demonstrated the world’s largest cargo carrier’s
determination to offer specialised solution to an industry that promises
huge returns.
Emirates SkyCargo also became the first cargo airline in the world to
obtain GDP certification for its hub operations covering two airports and
the 24/7 bonded trucking service that connects cargo between them. The
carrier also operates the largest GDP certified area in the world offering a
total area of 8,600 square metres of combined handling space dedicated
for pharmaceutical products at Dubai International Airport and Dubai
World Central.
The new purpose built Emirates SkyPharma facility, part of the new
11,000 square metre extension of Emirates SkyCentral terminal at Dubai
International Airport, offers 4,000 square metres of space dedicated to
pharmaceutical cargo. It also features temperature controlled zones (2-8
degree Celsius and 15-25 degree Celsius), 88 temperature controlled
individual positions in the automated ULD (aircraft pallet) handling
system and 5 temperature controlled acceptance and delivery truck
docks.
Emirates SkyCargo has also been awarded the certification of
compliance under the EU Good Distribution Practice guidelines (GDP)
for medicinal products for human use by Bureau Veritas following an
audit conducted by the certification agency’s team from Germany. The
certification validates the carrier’s adherence to the strict guidelines on
the transport and handling of pharmaceutical products and covers all
Emirates SkyCargo handling activities for pharmaceutical products at its
hub in Dubai.
The new Emirates SkyPharma facility at Dubai International airport works
in conjunction with Emirates SkyCentral DWC, the carrier’s freighter hub
in Dubai World Central which offers 4,600 square metres of dedicated
area for pharmaceutical cargo. Both facilities complement the range
of innovative cool chain products and solutions offered by Emirates
SkyCargo.

Is there a destination good for
cargo but Emirates SkyCargo has not
started yet?
here is always a list of destinations. We
are constantly scouting around the
globe. Businesses are moving. They are
dynamic and fluid. We are always looking
around to see where are the volumes
moving, where is manufacturing moving
to. Accordingly we work on these either to
shift capacities or create additional capacity. The good example was the launch
of freighter service to Hanoi in Vietnam,
which was followed by a passenger flight.
All of a sudden we have a substantial
capacity out of this unique city that just
emerged out of nowhere. Hanoi was
nowhere in our radar five years ago. The
decision of driving some of these things
