Gilbert Family Farm
– Preserving a family tradition of hard work
Like all of the Century Farm awardees for 2025, the Gilbert Family Farm is the courageous story of brave pioneers who weathered the trials and tribulations of rural life more than 100 years ago. James and Margaret Gilbert with Alex and Lela Gilbert were the original owners of the Gilbert Farm, now owned by James and Margaret’ s greatgreat-grandson, Tom Claybrook and his wife Kim.
“ They came to Arkansas from Polk County, North Carolina, after the turn of the 20th century,” Tom began.“ James Gilbert homesteaded approximately 160 acres in 1907. The homestead certificate was granted by President Theodore Roosevelt. Alex Gilbert homesteaded 80 acres in 1913 and his certificate was granted by President Woodrow Wilson.”
Together, James and Alex raised beef and dairy cattle and harvested various crops while accumulating hundreds more acres over the years.
As neighbors, friends and business partners, we are honored to congratulate you on your family milestone!
