Asa

A Story teller and her strings

BY MARIAM UNAWU
Imagine being pulled into a world of stories just by increasing the volume on your music listening device and relaxing with a glass of red wine . That ' s the one thing we ' ve come to love about the ever delectable ÀSA . With a voice so sonorous and the ability to melt the hardest of hearts she has overtime become African Queen of soul .
Bukola Elemide popularly know as Asa ( which means Hawk by the way ) is an international African Artist signed to Native Records in France , Paris where she currently resides , she has an array of music which has been performed both nationally and internationally , and on some of the biggest internationally televised music contest shows in the country . She uniquely combines her native dialect , Yoruba and English even though she doesn ' t speak so well .
The Queen of African soul released her last album " Bed Of Stone " in 2014 and she , as always , didn ' t give us a hard time in transforming " we " the listeners into characters prancing in a lifetime of stories embedded in 4:05 mins of music sounds and the artistry of telling magnificent stories .
Her favorite instrument been the Acoustic guitar has created most of the sounds we ' ve come to love as she strums away joyfully in the plethora of vibrations when she ' s recording in the studio , from the famous sounds of a slow-fast paced " Jailer " to the very edgy and witty lyrics of " Éye Adaba ".
From describing her mother ' s unending beauty and hardwork in " Beautiful " to musically Bashing the Guy under the earth in " Satan Be Gone ",
In calling out a fri-nemy in " Dead again " to moving on from the hurt in her heart wrenching track " Moving on ". String by string she encapsulates it all . What else captures good music like a story that the mind eye can see ?!
10 times out of 10 ÀSA has successfully drawn the world with every lyric and sound and string and we can ' t wait for her next story telling journey .
