Cross Country Call Me Sir
One of the top mares sired by Redboy was Cross Country Bay Mist. She was a record setting mare winning National Grand Champion Junior Mare in 1997 and National Grand Champion Senior Mare in 1998. Revered as one of the finest mares in the industry, there are several other daughters of Redboy that are World Champions and producers of World Champions as well.
Bob Erwin of NFC Farms. He approached Max to sell Redboy. She shares with us,“ Bob made Dad an offer that he was considering and was becoming itchy to accept. I told Dad,“ Well, if you do that, then tell Bob to send the biggest trailer he has so that he can load Redboy and all his mares in, because you just sold your whole program!” Needless to say he thought about it and Redboy remained a permanent fixture on our farm.”

Redboy’ s qualities as an outstanding sire do not stop there. Two of his sons, have won the distinguished AMHA World Champion Get of Sire title. Cross Country’ s Call Me Sir won the title in 2006.
Champion Farms Nighthawk has won the Get of Sire title twice, once in 2002 and again in 2003.
Redboy is the grandsire to numerous World Champions in halter and performance continuing to win titles even in today’ s show ring.
But it has been the loyalty of Redboy’ s owners that have made him so successful. Their dedication and belief in him; their willingness to continue to promote him year after year and to be certain his offspring remained competitive in the breed. It was this belief in him that made Redboy one of the great ones.
There was one instance in Redboy’ s history that could have changed his fate forever. Belinda recalls a visit from

The dedication to prove Redboy’ s worth and ability paid off. Redboy sired 165 foals in his lifetime and the sales and recognition of those foals and their show ring successes put Cross Country Farm on the map. Max and Belinda poured thirty years worth of sweat, blood and tears into their farm. Redboy was the heart and soul of the farm for many years, but after a summer of ailing health; it was time that the inevitable decision was made to put him down. Max, Belinda, her husband Bill, Dr. Tilley and a dear family friend Clyde all stood by Redboy as he passed on to meet his sire Rowdy and many others who have gone on before to those greener pastures above.
Belinda once wrote to Tony Graves and made a profound statement even before Redboy passed away. She said,“ I think sometime you are only allowed one great horse in a lifetime, but I have been allowed two. My first great horse was a Quarter horse named John. He carried me to a State Championship and won several saddles for me in barrel racing and pole bending. At the age of thirty-two he is still living in the pastures at Cross Country. The second great one is Redboy, who will remain here until he dies. So, if I never get another great horse, I will not feel cheated as I feel that I have had my share.”
Redboy left his mark in AMHA history as one of the true greats of the industry. Cross Country Farm and Belinda will continue on breeding and winning with the heritage he left to carry on. The farm will forever be owned by Redboy, but a few of his sons will be running the show from now on!
Our thanks to Belinda Bagby and Tony Greaves for sharing the story of Lazy N Red Boy.
