Cassio stripped of rank after party

7

The war did not happen, and Othello had a party to celebrate.

It was at this very party that the good Michael Cassio was stripped of his rank by Othello. Cassio got drunk off alcohol he was given by Iago, and proceeded to attack Montano, one of Othello’s loyal friends and supporters. It is still unknown as to what led to Cassio attacking Motano, but it is believed that Cassio, who is generally peaceful, was provoked by someone or something.

When Othello arrived on the scene he was very angry. This is one of the first times that any of his men had really seen his anger. Iago finally fessed up about what happened, and Othello took away Cassio’s ranking explaiming, “Cassio, I love thee,/But never more be officer of mine.-“

Cassio was at first crushed after the demoting, and after seeking advice from Iago, is currently pressuring Desdemona into talking to Othello for him.

It is Cassio’s own fault that he was demoted. If he had just not given in to Iago he would not have found himself in that situation. Even afterwards though, Cassio does not blame anyone but himself for the unfortunate event.

It is still up in the air as to what will become of Michael Cassio.
