CONFERENCES and EVENTS Energy levels ran high among expert presenters and 190 attendees during Securities America’s 21 st Assistant University. ENERGY ABOUNDS AT ASSISTANT UNIVERSITY The Assistant University Study Group and Sales Assistant Advisory Board (SAAB) meeting began their day-long meetings first thing Wednesday morning. Chris Kirby, senior business consultant for Securities America Practice Management, and Karen Keithley, business consultant for Securities America Practice Management, led the study group’s discussions around the biggest challenges and opportunities their firms have encountered. Laurie Burkhard, senior Practice Management business consultant, and Brian Eaton, manager of Practice Management Technology Training, collected insights from SAAB members on how Securities America’s initiatives are meeting our clients’ needs and what we can do to better serve our advisors and their staff. On Wednesday afternoon, over 50 industry newcomers attended inaugural sessions of the new track, “New to Financial Services Foundation,” and principals and support staff heard real-life case studies during the continuing education session on anti- money laundering. During the early evening, first-time attendees and AU veterans enjoyed connecting and networking during the welcome reception. VIDEO SPOTLIGHT 13 The STAR | NOVEMBER 2018 On Thursday morning, Phil Hansen presented an inspiring keynote message titled “Embrace the Shake.” As a gifted young artist working with pointillism (the art of creating images with small dots), Hansen developed permanent nerve damage that caused a tremor in his right hand. After a physician suggested
