INAUGURAL
Out of the
Ordinary
They came from states across
the country, from Washington,
D.C. to California, and North
Carolina to Washington state. But
they all had one thing in common.
They were all next-generation
financial advisors meeting in the
middle of the map for Securities
America’s inaugural NxG
Conference, Sept. 6-7.

Securities America developed this inaugural event to focus on
growing the businesses of next-generation advisors – their way.
Combining elements of traditional conferences, a keynote speech
and preconference workshop with interactive, competitive
components, it was definitely not your parents’ conference.
Attendees were given the option to attend a pre-event workshop,
“The Changing Landscape of Practice Acquisitions.” The coming
years will see unprecedented opportunity to acquire practices. A
recent study by Accenture revealed $4.5 trillion in AUM will change
hands in the next decade. This four-hour workshop, presented by
John Turner, a senior loan officer with Live Oak Bank, showed
attendees how they could become an informed and confident
acquirer of financial service practices.
Turner described the entire life cycle of an acquisition, the three
components of an attractive deal structure and how to prepare the
office, staff and financials to close the deal acquiring a practice.
Attendees also learned how to leverage bank financing to remain
cash-flow positive after the deal closes.
“It was great to get that inside
scoop and see how you can

the banks. There are creative
ways to structure loans to
make them work for you,” said Nick Weber
of Folsom, California. “I never considered any
of that, so it was pretty powerful.”
RiseMark, Inc. President and CEO Brian Petranick provided an eye-
opening keynote speech on entrepreneurship and scaling a business.
