STANFORDBASKETBALL November 2013 FRESH TO THE FARM From left to right: Marcus Allen, Scott Woods, head coach Johnny Dawkins, Schuyler Rimmer, Malcolm Allen Meet Stanford’s Freshman Class Stanford welcomes its newest freshman class for the 99th season of Cardinal basketball. Guards Marcus and Malcolm Allen are the fourth set of twins to play varsity basketball at Stanford since 1960. Following a rich lineage of Cardinal twins -- most recently Brook and Robin Lopez, who were selected in the 2008 NBA Draft, and Jason and Jarron Collins, who joined the NBA after graduating in 2001 -- the Allens hail from Las Vegas, NV, and turned 19 shortly before arriving on campus in September. Marcus and Malcolm have had a Stanford connection since birth: their mother, Trina Wiggins, was a gymnast at Stanford who graduated in 1982. The Allens will add a welcome athleticism to the Stanford lineup. Both are gritty defenders, and Malcolm is known for his jump shot while Marcus is a little bigger and tougher at the rim. Schuyler Rimmer, from Orlando, FL, has traveled across the country to join the Cardinal. A center with size and strength, Rimmer plays with physicality in the paint. Rimmer had a versatile stat line in the Cardinal-White scrimmage: 2-of-2 free throw shooting, four rebounds and 2 blocks in 20 minutes. Rounding out the class is Scott Woods, a native Californian out of Simi Valley. Slender but athletic, Woods is known for his shot-blocking ability and agility. The forward saw only seven minutes of action in the Cardinal-White scrimmage but collected an impressive four rebounds in that time.
