STANFORDBASKETBALL May 2014 Stanford also enjoyed significant individual success both on and off the court this season. Four players reached the 1,000-career point mark this year: Dwight Powell and Chasson Randle against BYU and Anthony Brown and Josh Huestis against New Mexico. Powell and Randle also earned spots on the AllPac-12 First Team, while Huestis was named to the All-Defensive Team. Anthony Brown was voted the Most Improved Player in the conference. Six Stanford players were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic team, a league-best and the fifth season in a row that Stanford has totaled the most selections of any school in the conference. Brown, John Gage and Robbie Lemons were named to the first team. Stefan Nastic and Randle were second team picks, and Powell earned honorable mention accolades. Powell was also named the Pac-12 ScholarAthlete of the year, and he will graduate in June with a degree in Science, Technology & Society. A few weeks after the season ended, the Cardinal team and coaches gathered with family and fans to celebrate the remarkable 2013-14 season. Stanford’s numerous accomplishments were noted and awards were given for individual and statistical accomplishments. The evening concluded with each of the six seniors addressing the audience and reflecting on their careers at Stanford. The senior speeches are always touching and heartfelt, and while these speeches are always rooted in their basketball careers, they often encompass much more. Robbie Lemons expressed an “overwhelming feeling of gratitude” for his time and experiences at Stanford, while Dwight Powell, an only child whose mother passed away before the 2012-13 season, described how his definition of the word “family” evolved during his time on the Farm. John Gage told a story about a video session with Coach O’Toole that quickly turned into an hour-long discussion of The Old Man and the Sea – a meeting, he said, that helped him at that moment more than any film session could have. As it does every year, H
