I have always had an eye for shapes, colors and how things are balanced. My first cameras were the disposable cameras; and even then, I was taking action shots at a track meet or football game. I am not a studio photographer, mainly because I like to capture subjects in their natural movement-not posed. Also, outside shots or location shoots are great because of the beauty of the natural light the sun gives off.
One of my favorite kinds of photos are black and white photos, because they are more dramatic. No matter if it is laughter or sadness, in black and white it gives the photo a different perspective. Nature is one of my favorite subjects because it is so diverse. Even the same location can look different according to seasons, sunlight and position of the shot. My next favorite shoots to do, are candid shots of people. These types of shots tell an entire story about the person or people involved, much more than a posed, color picture does. In posed, staged pictures; it is the photographer, not the subject, who is on display. As I mentioned, I prefer to do these candid shots in black and white for the added drama and dimension. Not only that, but candid shots are much more memorable and heart-warming, because those involved will always remember the particular moment when the shot was taken.
I love experimenting with different types of lenses and filters to see what kind of new effects I can create. While I am very good at using Photo Shop, I try to limit its use and instead, focus on taking the best picture, at the best angle, in the best light, with the best lens, and putting the subject in the best mood; in order to achieve the best, more natural shot. I love everything about photography and I constantly strive to learn more so that I can be the best (well, one of them, anyway) photographer available.
Since the month of June usually brings weddings and graduations, I decided to show some wedding photos and graduation/ portrait photos. I hope you enjoy. ~ Jennifer Alexander
