Unique Notes
"My mother and father said I was singing instead of talking so I kind of started off a little different."
"I have lived in many places, my father said it was the gypsy in our blood, lol. Most of my family is in Houston Texas. I lived in the Philippines for a year when i was 13 and it changed my life! After that we moved to a small town in Texas, Livingston, Texas to be exact total shock to the system. I was raised by a very conservative father and I was his liberal hippie child, the black sheep of the family. My mother and only brother still reside in Houston. I moved around from Washington State to Colorado where I lived for over 15 and met my spouse, who is transgender, and we were married in Texas a year ago, yeah unbelievable Texas lol. I moved back to Houston in 2008."
Brickhouse: When did you first discover that you had unique musical talent?
Shenakahra: My mother and father said I was singing instead of talking so I kind of started off a little different. My grandmother thought it was something else that a child would sing everything even while saying please lol. I have always loved every genre of music. I think my unique style started
in my early teens....yeah pretty much- people in the small town of Livingston Texas thought I was from a different planet....you know kind of out there, I have always been eccentric.
Brickhouse: As I mentioned you have a very unique style of music. What type of obstacles have you faced while attempting to share your creativity with the world?
Shenakahra: One of my obstacles is getting out there and showing the world what I have to offer. Something different and out of the box. You know out of the norm and people don't like that. They are too wrapped up in their security blankets of comfort. I express my feelings and life experience through my lyrics and music.
Brickhouse: What are some things that inspire you to create music?
