Water Handling

Special Focus Update

Rite Water Solutions launches oxidation project
Rite Water Solutions India Private Limited ( RWSIPL ) and Ozone Research and Application India Pvt Ltd ( ORAIPL ) have launched India ’ s first large-scale Advanced Oxidation Project to rejuvenate the Assi River , a tributary of the Ganges . This initiative sets a new benchmark for wastewater management in India and aims to preserve the sanctity of the Ganges . Located near Assi Ghat in Varanasi , the project intercepts and treats 30 million liters of sewage water per day ( MLD ) from a major drain using a combination of cutting-edge technologies . Geo-tubes are used to remove suspended solids , while ozone treatment effectively reduces Biological Oxygen Demand ( BOD ) and Chemical Oxygen Demand ( COD ) to ensure compliance with stringent Central Pollution Control Board ( CPCB ) standards . By effectively recycling water , this initiative not only alleviates environmental pressures but also preserves the river ’ s ecological balance , supports local biodiversity , and upholds the cultural integrity of Varanasi . Operational since April 30 , 2024 , the project has successfully treated approximately 800-900 million liters of water , showcasing its exceptional efficiency and positive environmental impact . Real-time sensors continuously monitor the treated water quality , ensuring compliance with the highest standards and providing transparency through data transmission to a national portal . The project is implemented under the Build-Own-Operate ( BOO ) model , with Rite Water Solutions making the initial investment and the Ganga Authority ( NMCG ) paying based on the quality of treated water . This performance-based payment structure ensures high-quality output .
EWA to construct a SWRO desalination plant on Hawar
The Electricity and Water Authority ( EWA ) is embarking on an exciting project to construct a cutting-edge seawater
reverse osmosis ( SWRO ) desalination plant on Hawar Island . Named the “ New Hawar SWRO Desalination Plant ,” this facility will be strategically located on the southeastern coast of Bahrain . Designed to meet Bahrain ’ s growing water needs , the plant will have the capacity to produce between one and two million gallons per day ( MIGD ) of potable water . It will feature an advanced desalination system , two ground storage tanks each with a one-million-gallon capacity , and the necessary forwarding pumps to ensure efficient distribution . The project will be executed under an EPC ( Engineering , Procurement , and Construction ) contract , highlighting the complexity and scale of the development . The New Hawar SWRO Desalination Plant is set to significantly bolster Bahrain ’ s water resources and support the Kingdom ’ s sustainable growth .
Catalonia invest EUR 2.3bn to build a desalination plant
The Catalan government plans to invest EUR 2.3bn until 2040 in water infrastructure so that Catalonia stops depending on rainwater . The new investment is to build a new water desalination plant on the northern Costa Brava . The infrastructure would cost EUR 200M and would require funding from the Spanish government . The agreements “ design ” a set of measures that allow Catalonia to reach 70 % of its total water consumption guaranteed from its own resources by 2027 . For now , the territory has 33 % of guaranteed consumption beyond rainwater . Another of the new plans is to divert wastewater from the Besòs river to the Llobregat to be treated . The Llobregat already has a network of water purification plants with the capacity to treat the Besòs wastewater . The new Besòs water treatment plants will not be in use until 2033 .
