Petrofac awarded a contract extension
Offshore engineering specialist Petrofac has been awarded a contract extension by energy supermajor BP for continuing support across its North Sea portfolio . Petrofac said that it would be providing maintenance and engineering services under the terms of a three-year , multimillion-dollar contract . In the North Sea , BP is the operator of the Clair Phase One project , Clair Ridge , Glen Lyon , the currently shut down Foinaven field , Eastern Trough Area Project or ETAP , and Andrew . As for non-operated interests , BP holds stakes in the TotalEnergies Culzean development and Ithaca Energy ’ s Vorlich field , both in the Central North Sea . “ Petrofac has supported BP in the North Sea for 15 years . This award is a testament to delivering shared goals of increased efficiency and asset life extension ,” said Nick Shorten , COO of Petrofac ’ s Asset Solutions business . Danieli to remodel Siderurgica Balboa ’ s two reheating furnaces
A . G . Siderurgica Balboa selected Danieli Technologies to remodel two reheating furnaces to accelerate energy efficiency and pollution reduction . These furnaces cater to the section mill and the flexible bar , wire rod , and light section mill , operating at the Jerez de los Caballeros plant in Spain ’ s Extremadura region . Originally supplied by Danieli between 2005 and 2007 , these mills will undergo significant upgrades to reduce their CO2 footprint by up to 10 %. The key to achieving this reduction lies in the installation of Danieli Centro Combustion ’ s innovative HydroMAB flameless burners , designed to not only decrease natural gas consumption but also mitigate NOx emissions . Additionally , the HydroMAB burners are hydrogen-ready , positioning Siderurgica Balboa to seamlessly transition to hydrogen usage when it becomes available . The upgrade encompasses the implementation of new Danieli Automation Level 1 and process control systems , integrating the RHF optimization model and enhancing the roof lining for improved performance . The upgrade project is set to conclude by the end of 2024 .
Vietnamese government targets 6 GW of offshore wind by 2030
The Vietnamese government has formally approved Power Development Plan 8 ( PDP 8 ), which includes a significant commitment to wind energy , including 6 GW of offshore wind by 2030 . The national development plan also includes a longer term vision for the power sector , according to which Vietnam ’ s 2050 target for offshore wind is 70-91 GW . The overall aim of the plan is to ensure national energy security and provide enough electricity to meet fast-growing demand in the country , including demand growth arising as a result of average annual GDP growth of 7 % per year until 2030 and 6.5-7.5 % per year between 2031-2050 . PDP 8 strongly focuses on the development of renewable energy sources for electricity generation , with renewable electricity generation accounting for 30.9-39.2 % of total generation by 2030 . The Vietnamese government also wants to invest heavily in a smart grid system capable of integrating and safely operating large-scale renewable energy sources .
