DUPLEX WORLD CONFERENCE & EXPO 2026

Duplex World Conference, 7 May

10.00 Keynote: Strength and durability: the expanding landscape of duplex stainless steels. Nicole Kinsman, IMOA 10.30-11.00 Coffee break
ROOM 1 ROOM 2 11.00 Thick-section products / manufacturing
11.00 Manufacturing processes
Conference & Expo
2026
Moderator: Yassar Ghanimi Moderator: Iris Rommerskirchen
This session looks at the practical challenges of producing and joining thick-section duplex and super duplex, where heat input, cooling control, and weld procedure qualification become critical. Speakers will compare advanced joining routes, including vacuum electron beam and laser welding, against more conventional approaches, while an end user discusses practical fabrication and reliability concerns.
• Welding of large wall thickness super duplex stainless steel. Fredrik H. Tranø, Equinor
• Potential of Local Vacuum Electron Beam and laser welding of thick-section duplex stainless steels in industrial applications. Chris Punshon, CVE
• Challenges in processing thick-walled( super) duplex from a user’ s perspective in terms of welding and materials technology. Kai Engler, BUTTING
14.00 – 16.00 Panel discussion: Supply chain issues( end user, EPC, material supplier, fabricator, engineering company)
With experts representing the supply chain from manufacturers to EPCs and end users, this interactive session tackles issues commonly faced by all. From the availability of grades and product forms, to supply bottlenecks how these can be alleviated.
The discussion will feature an extensive Q & A with the audience. Moderator: Barinder Ghai, Alleima
Panellists:- David Farias, Neste- Mark van den Broek, Fluor- Dr Talal Al Nabhani, PDO- Group COEK( tbc)
This session explores how alloy design, casting practice, and thermal history influence the manufacturability and in-service reliability of duplex and super duplex stainless steels. Presenters will discuss composition and casting optimisation in ER2594 billets, sensitisation risks during continuous cooling across product thicknesses, and practical considerations for safely specifying and producing duplex grades.
• Optimisation of alloy composition and casting conditions to improve surface toughness in ER2594 billets. Shinsuke Ogyu, Nippon Steel Corp
• Sensitisation of duplex stainless steels during continuous cooling for different plate and sheet thicknesses. Jan Jonsson, Outokumpu
• Manufacturing challenges and the safe use of duplex stainless steel. Torfinn Havn, Ztrong Partner
• Short paper: Phase transformation and microstructural evolution of 2205 cast duplex after isothermal aging and hot forging processes, Asma Teghri, Padua University
• Short paper: Effect of phase transformation on mechanical and corrosion properties of a 2205 heat-treated cast duplex stainless steel. Farid Ahani, Padua University
12.30 – 14.00 Lunch
13.30 – 16.30 MASTERCLASS OPEN TO ALL VISITORS: Masterclass on understanding duplex stainless steels
This in-depth Masterclass, presented by leading materials experts from the Duplex World Steering Committee, is an extraordinary opportunity to learn from and participate in discussions on some of the most important aspects of using duplexes. Includes:- The limits of corrosion resistance and weldability: performance or failure, by and from an end-user perspective.- Microstructure & how to test differences; thermal / thermo-mechanical treatments- Manufacturing: welding, forming( hot and cold), machining- Heat-treatment, requirements and practical aspects- Difference in the wide range of grades- How to handle various product forms( plate, sheet, bar, forgings, pipe, tubing)- Specs and codes, e. g. NORSOK- Case studies from attendants and presenters
16.00 Refreshments and closing
