This month , our editorial team has returned to the topic of tubes , pipes , and fittings , an important segment of the stainless steel industry . It ’ s also a sector which is doing very well at the moment , with global demand for projects in the areas of oil & gas , coal , nuclear , renewables and petrochemicals driving demand around the globe , with some particularly strong geographies set to dominate the market in the coming years . In his global overview , James Chater highlights that the tubes , pipes and fittings market is expected to grow by around 4.5 % per annum until 2023 , with economic growth in China and India playing an important role . The world ’ s thirst for oil and gas remains unabated , while new energies such as hydrogen , CCUS and renewables also offer good prospects for stainless suppliers . It ’ s a win / win situation that should see this part of our industry scoring strong performance in the years ahead .
Stainless tubes , pipes and fittings are essential components in some more surprising places too . We have a great feature article by Stefano Sgobba and Katie Buchanan from the CERN Large Hadron Collider project .“ Stainless steels play a crucial role in most components of modern particle accelerators and high-energy physics experiments ”, explains Stefano . The materials challenges in this project are enormous , demanding the best from manufacturers with the expertise and precision required to produce the tightly specified stainless steel and nickel-based superalloys required . This month , we welcome Venus Pipes & Tubes back to the cover . The company is rapidly on its way to becoming India ’ s largest manufacturer of stainless steel pipes , with solid growth in both its domestic and international markets . It is now powering ahead in other geographies , with the founding of Venus Europe GmbH in Germany last summer boosting the company ’ s global reach . You can read about how they have achieved this from page 8 .
Finally , on the topic of fittings , we have a feature on stainless steel valves in the chemical industry for you from our regular contribution , Mr Chakraborty from India . He considers the most important materials considerations for this demanding industry and how stainless outperforms many other materials .
